01 / Austin steel fabrication

Steel fabrication services in Austin.

Four scopes. Each starts with a piece and its intended use. Zunbik handles steel storage fabrication in Austin, from measured shelving to compact workspace fixtures. Open frames have their own scope; existing steel needs a condition check before repair or alteration.

Written quotes after review. Price depends on the service: dimensions and fixing conditions for new work; inspection and access for an alteration. Steel choice, finish and the work involved are settled in the scope, not assumed from a photograph.

No checkout. No standard product price. Choose the nearest service below, then send a brief for discussion.

Measured steel shelving

Storage that starts with what will actually sit on it. Wall-mounted or freestanding steel shelving suits a studio alcove, a home work area or a small shop where a standard unit leaves an awkward gap.

The brief covers the shelf as a working piece, not just a rectangle. Steel shelves and their supports need to be considered together; a neat-looking surface does not tell you how the weight reaches the wall or floor. The selected material and finish form part of the written proposal.

For a commercial shelving enquiry, describe the normal contents and how people reach them. A shelf filled with light display objects is a different brief from storage used for dense tools, even at the same overall size.

Wall-mounted or freestanding steel storage.
Use

Dimensions
Available width and depth, with the proposed shelf position.
Conditions

Price basis
Reviewed dimensions, material, finish, fixing conditions, and fabrication time.

A shelving enquiry should stay about storage. If you only need an open support for a separate top, use the frame scope rather than assuming a shelf includes it.

Compact workspace fixtures

A narrow bench can reclaim a strip of wall. A short steel rail can put frequently used items within reach. These are workshop fit out fixtures for a particular task, rather than a roomful of interchangeable furniture.

Zunbik scopes narrow steel benches, rails and storage pieces for work areas and small retail settings. The steel support and any surface or accessory requirements are described separately, so the quote does not leave the working top or its attachments to guesswork.

For compact retail fixtures in Austin, tell us what the fixture holds and how it is used through the day. A piece that is restocked from the side needs different space around it from one that stays against a wall. Leave room for use, not just installation.

Small steel frames

An open steel frame gives a defined surface or display its support. It is not automatically a shelf, a bench or a complete table. Keeping those boundaries clear means a separate top is not mistaken for something included in the fabrication scope.

A made to measure steel frame begins with its overall geometry and the part it supports. Section size and joint method affect both the appearance and the way the frame can be assembled. The finish and required fixing are decisions within that same brief.

Send information about the supported surface even if somebody else supplies it. An attachment that needs a hole in a particular place cannot be left until after the steel is finished. If the surface has not been selected, say so.

For small space steel furniture, specify what belongs to the steelwork and what is supplied separately. A photograph of a complete piece does not settle that division.

Repair and alteration

Start with the existing piece. A worn bracket, a steel fixture that needs shortening or a frame that no longer suits its use needs an assessment before an alteration can be priced.

Steel fixture repair in Austin is not just new material added to old material. The condition of the remaining steel matters. Corrosion, a distorted joint or a concealed connection can change the proposed work, including whether repair makes sense at all.

Photographs help explain the problem and identify what needs a closer look. They do not settle the material condition behind a coating or inside a joint. We may propose repair, a modification or no work where the condition cannot support a responsible scope.

Choose the work, not just the shape

New fabrication and alteration start from different evidence.

A new piece can be specified around its intended use. An existing piece brings its own material condition. Sending the same outline sketch for both leaves out the most important part of a repair brief.

New steel work

Start with the space and the task. Steel storage fabrication is scoped from the required piece and its support conditions, with choices of material and finish made during review. An existing shelf may be a useful reference, but copying its dimensions does not copy its capacity.

Useful first record
A dimensioned sketch identifying which faces are fixed and which can change.
Decision to settle
What the steelwork includes, and who supplies adjoining parts or surfaces.

Work on existing steel

Start with what is there and why it needs changing. Removing a section can affect the way the rest behaves. A replacement part cannot be specified independently of its connection to the remaining steel, and a fresh coating does not resolve hidden damage.

Useful first record
An overall view and a description of the affected area, including what cannot be seen.
Decision to settle
Whether inspection supports an alteration or points toward a different approach.

A review is a stage in defining the work, not a structural sign-off. For a numerical starting point, use the steel load sizing tool. Its result expresses intended load per area, not safe capacity.

Before a job is agreed

Get the boundaries in writing.

One enquiry can cover more than one piece. Identify each separately so a change to a rail does not quietly become a change to the shelf beside it.

See the full review process
  1. Identify the service

Tell us if the job starts with new steel or an existing piece. If neither heading seems right, explain the intended result in ordinary words. You do not have to name a fabrication method.

  2. Resolve the missing information

Measurements and site conditions are reviewed before the work is defined. We identify any further check needed and discuss access rather than assuming every dimension is confirmed.

  3. Review the proposed scope

The written proposal separates the fabricated piece from work by others. Read the material, finish and fixing assumptions alongside the quote. If an assumption is wrong, it needs changing before agreement.

  4. Agree what happens next

A schedule is discussed against the reviewed work and any outstanding checks. Sending an enquiry does not reserve a fabrication slot. No date or result is guaranteed by the service descriptions here.

Compact work / Clear limits

A useful piece. Not an open-ended building project.

These scopes suit small, defined steel pieces for a known use. They do not offer a general contracting service or structural engineering certification. We will not assign an unlimited load or turn an unknown connection into an approved fixing by choosing thicker steel.

If a drawing needs an engineering decision, identify that requirement at the start. If the job is within the workshop scope but your measurements are incomplete, an enquiry is still welcome. Read more about how Zunbik approaches a brief.

Before you enquire

The practical questions come first.

No technical vocabulary required. A clear description of the piece and its use is more useful than a guessed steel specification.

Can I ask about a single piece?

Yes. A compact shelf, a narrow fixture or a small frame is a suitable starting point for an enquiry. Describe the piece and its intended use; suitability is checked before a scope is agreed.

A single awkward corner can be a complete brief. You do not need to turn it into a whole-room fit out.

Do I need to choose the steel section first?

No. State the dimensions and intended use first. If you already have a section or thickness in mind, include it as a preference rather than an approved specification.

A sketch can distinguish a fixed dimension from one that can move. That distinction gives the review something useful to work with.

Is installation included?

Do not assume it is included. Fabrication, delivery and installation responsibilities must be stated in the written scope. Site access and fixing conditions affect what can be proposed.

Tell us who is responsible for any adjoining surface or building work, especially where the piece relies on preparation by someone else.

Can you confirm a price or date from a photograph?

A photograph can start the assessment, but it cannot settle concealed conditions or measurements. A price and proposed schedule follow the review of the actual work. This site publishes no binding quote or fixed turnaround.

For an alteration, include the overall piece as well as the affected area when you contact the workshop. A tight crop can hide the connection that determines the next question.

Have a space that a standard piece will not use?

Send its dimensions and the job it needs to do. For an existing steel piece, add what needs changing. We will work from that brief rather than asking you to choose a stock model.
